New Delhi: Several Congress leaders who were marching to the Vijay Chowk on Tuesday were detained. The Congress’ members were demonstrating against the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for summoning party’s interim chief Sonia Gandhi in the National Herald money laundering case.

Congress’ top officials including Ranjeet Ranjan, KC Venugopal, Manickam Tagore, Imran Pratapgarhi, K Suresh and others were detained.

The march started from Gandhi Statue in the Parliament premises towards Vijay Chowk where former Congress chief Rahul Gandhi was also present. This comes after the party were denied permission to hold protest at Raj Ghat in Delhi today.

Congress leader Maken addressed a press conference Tuesday morning. He asserted that the party wanted to demonstrate in front of memorial of Mahatama Gandhi as it is a “symbolic place.”

He also said, “Today, the Congress is conducting a satyagraha across the nation against this attack on democracy. We will also raise our voice in Parliament. We are all for peaceful protests, but in order for that, it is the duty of the police to also ensure and cooperate [sic].”

Congress interim chief Sonia Gandhi is currently appearing for the Enforcement Directorate (ED) interrogation in the National Herald money laundering case.

Gandhi Tuesday was called for the second round of questioning. Earlier, on July 21, she was interrogated nearly for two hours.
