New Delhi: Tata Motors has started pan-India deliveries of the Tiago EV hatchback, with the first batch delivering 2,000 units across 133 cities. The company claims to have received more than 20,000 bookings for the Tiago EV so far – with the first 10,000 coming in on the first day.

At the launch, Tata said that the introductory prices will be applicable only for the first 10,000 bookings of the Tiago EV. Tata, however, overwhelmed by the response, extended the introductory prices for an additional 10,000 customers.

The Tiago EV is currently priced between Rs 8.49 lakh-11.79 lakh (ex-showroom, India) but will soon increase as more and more bookings come in.

The Tiago EV comes with two battery options – 19.2 kWh and 24 kWh. The brand favors deliveries of the latter, with deliveries of the smaller battery variants starting at the end of February.

Tata Tiago EV: Current waiting periods

According to dealer sources, the current waiting time for the long-range Tiago EV is four months, while it is 5-6 months for the medium-range. Retailer sources tell us that the ‘Tropical Mist’ and ‘Teal Blue’ shades are the most sought after. The waiting time for the Tigor EV sedan, on the other hand, is approximately one month for private buyers.

Interestingly, the Tiago EV is finding customers outside the regular metropolitan belts and in states like Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Bihar and Madya Pradesh – a trend that is different from what was seen with the Nexon EV and Tigor EV. Customers in these states are actually opting for the longer-range option, but this may be due to a lack of charging infrastructure, which is still sporadically available in and around major cities.

Tata Tiago EV: Battery, Range and Powertrain Details

The Tiago EV is powered by the Tata Ziptron high-voltage architecture and, as mentioned, has two batteries. The Tiago EV with the smaller battery has 61 hp and 110 Nm, while the larger battery has 74 hp and 114 Nm.

The base variants of the Tiago EV have a smaller battery which gives it an MIDC range of 250 km while the higher variants get a bigger battery which gives it an MIDC range of 315 km. The Tiago EV is also capable of fast charging, and both batteries can be charged from 10 percent to 80 percent in 57 minutes using a 50kW fast charger.

Upcoming Tata Launches: 2023 and beyond

At the Auto Expo 2023, Tata announced that it will launch nine new cars and SUVs by 2025, which will include a mix of ICE and EV models. Among these nine cars is the Tiago EV Blitz, which is getting a few cosmetic facelifts and will be launched in FY2024.
