The EV features an AMG-specific electric motor on each axle, and India-bound models come standard with the Dynamic Plus package. With the Dynamic Plus package, the EQS 53 reaches 761 hp in Race Start mode, and with the boost function activated, it reaches a maximum torque of 1020 Nm. Mercedes-AMG claims the EQS 53 can accelerate from 0-100 in 3.4 seconds and has a top speed of 250 km/h.

The EQS 53 has multi-link suspension front and rear, but AMG says it has redesigned components, including the rear axle beam, and both the subframe and engine mount. It also features AMG Ride Control+ air suspension, which works with electronically controlled active dampers and rear axle steering.

The model also has a number of AMG driving modes that adjust the suspension, handling, performance and battery management, as well as changing the synthesized sound. In addition, EQS 53 owners can install updates for the over-the-air battery management system.

The EQS 53 also comes with AMG Track Pace – software that permanently records more than 80 vehicle-specific data such as speed and acceleration when driving on a race track.

The EQS also gets 21-inch wheels and AMG high-performance brakes as standard, with larger ceramic brakes available as an option. The new AMG modes are available as part of the standard EQS Sound Experience system and include a performance setting for Dynamic Plus models that adds “event sounds” for all vehicle functions.

Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 4Matic+: exterior design and aerodynamics

Despite its smooth and well-rounded cabin design towards the front, the EQS 53 gets a number of bespoke AMG styling cues, many of which resemble the classic design features of ICE-powered AMG cars. These include a custom-made front grille with a black panel with hot-formed vertical chrome struts and a redesigned front bumper.

While the AMG model matches the 0.23 Cd of the standard EQS, AMG says it has carried out wind tunnel testing to optimize airflow and has therefore redesigned the rear diffuser, side air intakes and given it a larger rear spoiler.

Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 4Matic+: interior and features

Inside, the Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 4Matic+ gets Mercedes’ first ‘Hyperscreen’ in India. The “Hyperscreen” essentially consists of three screens joined together by one continuous glass panel that runs from pillar to pillar along the entire length of the dashboard.

The driver and front passenger each get a 12.3-inch display, while the center infotainment screen is a larger 17.7-inch unit. It has 24GB of RAM and 8 CPUs.

The EQS 53 cabin adds some sportier touches, such as carbon fiber trim and Alcantara on the door trim and steering wheel. In terms of features, the EQS 53 gets equipment such as 64-colour ambient lighting, a Burmester sound system, massaging seats and optional Nappa leather.

Mercedes-Benz will introduce the standard EQS in 580 guise next month and unlike the AMG model, it will come to India via the CKD route. We drove this model and you can read our review here or watch our video.
