New Delhi: Women’s Asia Cup is about to kick start within a few days and teams are gearing up to fight for the trophy that has been with Women in Blue. In past 7 editions of the tournament, India has been crowned champions six of the times.

Previous seven editions of the tournament and India’s brilliance in it:-

1. The first Women’s Asia Cup was played in Sri Lanka in April 2004. Only two teams took part in it, India and Sri Lanka and they played a five-match One-Day International series against each other. India won all five matches and won the first Women’s Asia Cup.

2. Pakistan hosted the second edition in December 2005 and January 2006 making their first appearance in the tournament. India again won the tournament, beating Sri Lanka by 97 runs in the final.

3. The third time, it was played in Jaipur, India in December 2006. The tournament went the same way as the previous event. India beat Sri Lanka in the final, this time by eight wickets.

Once again India defeat Sri Lanka in 2008

4. The fourth edition was played in Sri Lanka in May 2008. A fourth team Bangladesh was added to the tournament. India again won the tournament, defeating Sri Lanka by 177 runs in the final.

5. The fifth edition was played in Guangdong Cricket Stadium, Guangzhou, China from 24 to 31 October 2012. This was the first T20 Women’s Asia Cup. A total of 6 teams participated in the tournament. India defeated Pakistan by 19 runs in the final.

6. The sixth Women’s Asia Cup tournament was played in Thailand, from 27 November to 4 December 2016. India beat Pakistan by 17 runs in the final, becoming champion for the 6th time consecutively.

India lose Asia Cup for first time

7. The seventh Women’s Asia Cup tournament was played in Malaysia, from 3 June to 10 June 2018. Bangladesh beat six-time winner India by 3 wickets in the final to clinch their first Asia Cup title.

A tournament was due to take place in 2020 in Bangladesh, but was postponed to 2021 and then eventually 2022 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The 2022 edition of the tournament is scheduled to take place in Sylhet, Bangladesh from 1 October to 16 October 2022.
