Govardhan Puja 2022: The festive season has started. Like every year, Diwali is celebrated with great pomp, which brings happiness and light in the lives of people, from cleaning houses to decorating them with lights, and rangolis and buying new clothes for family and friends.

The day after Diwali, Govardhan Puja (also known as Annakoot) is also celebrated. According to the Hindu calendar, this puja is performed on Kartik Shukla Pratipada.

Govardhan Puja involves making Annakoot and cow dung is used to make the figure of Govardhan. Govardhan Puja is considered incomplete without parikrama.

During Diwali celebrations, many people stay at home to spend the festival with their loved ones. During this period, people also celebrate festivals like Govardhan Puja, Dhanteras, Lakshmi Puja and Diwali Puja.

Tithi Govardhan Puja would be celebrated this year on Tuesday, 25 October 2022. However, there will also be a solar eclipse on this day, so this year Govardhan Puja will not be on the next day of Diwali but on Wednesday, October 26, 2022.

Govardhan Puja 2022: Pooja Vidhi / Muhurta Timing

Govardhan Puja should be performed on Pratipada Tithi of Kartik month as per Hindu mythology.

The Muhurta for this year’s Govardhan Puja, also known as Annakoot Puja, is from 06:29 to 08:43 on 26 October. Lord Indra was defeated by Lord Krishna on this day.

Significance

Please tell that Lord Indra got angry when Shri Krishna asked the Brajwasis to worship the Govardhan mountain and cows. After this, in his anger, Indra made such torrential rains that the life of the people of Braj became dangerous. Then Shri Krishna lifted the Govardhan mountain with his little finger to protect the Brajwasis and the animals.

He took refuge under this mountain for seven days. This is the reason that during Govardhan Puja people carve this mountain with cow dung and circumambulate it seven times.

Worship Material

Sweets offered to the deity, incense sticks, flowers, garlands made of fresh flowers, roli, rice and cow dung are all included in the list of Govardhan puja items. Chappan Bhog, which consists of 56 different food items, is prepared, and Panchamrit is made using honey, curd and sugar.
