Nayab Singh Saini sworn in as the new Chief Minister of Haryana, succeeding Manohar Lal Khattar. At the swearing-in ceremony held at Raj Bhavan, Saini was joined by five ministers, including BJP MLAs Banwari Lal and Jai Parkash Dalal, as well as independent legislator Ranjit Singh.

Saini, representing Kurukshetra in Parliament and a prominent figure of the OBC community, assumed the role after being appointed as the state president of Haryana BJP in October of the previous year.

Saini was selected as the BJP’s legislature party leader following Manohar Lal Khattar’s resignation amidst tensions within the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party-Jannayak Janata Party (BJP-JJP) alliance, which had governed the state since 2019.

“I extend my gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP National President JP Nadda, Haryana BJP in charge Biplab Deb, and former Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar for entrusting me with the leadership of the BJP legislature party,” Saini shared on the social platform X.

The relationship between the two parties soured after unsuccessful negotiations over seat sharing for the Lok Sabha elections. The Khattar cabinet consisted of 14 ministers, including the Chief Minister and three members from the Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala-led JJP, all of whom have submitted their resignations.

Currently, the BJP holds 41 seats in the 90-member assembly, while the JJP has 10 seats. Additionally, the ruling coalition is backed by six out of seven independent members.
