Taking a jibe at Congress, Prime Minister Narendra Modi On Tuesday said that the government which came into power after the independence gave priority to political selfishness and the Indian Railways is the major victim of that.

While addressing the event of inauguration and foundation stone laying of several Railway projects, PM Modi said that after coming to power, the first thing they did was include the Indian Railways in the budget of the government.

“Now, the government funds are being used to improve and develop the railways”, he said.

He emphasised that the India is a young country and a humongous amount of youth population resides here.

PM Modi asserted that the inaugurations made today are for the youth and for their present.

Ahead of the Lok Sabha elections 2024, PM Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stones of project worth Rs 85,000 crore railway projects in Gujarat on Tuesday.

He also flagged of 10 new Vande Bharat trains linking Ahmedabad-Mumbai Central, Secunderabad-Visakhapatnam, Patna- Lucknow, New Jalpaiguri-Patna, Puri-Visakhapatnam, Lucknow-Dehradun, Kalaburagi-Sir M Visvesvaraya Terminal Bengaluru, Ranchi-Varanasi and Khajuraho- Delhi (Nizamuddin), Mysuru-Dr MGR Central (Chennai).

He inaugurated the commencement of various railway infrastructure projects, including the laying of the foundation stone for railway workshops, loco sheds, pit lines, coaching depots, and the Phaltan-Baramati new line. Additionally, he initiated the electric traction system upgrade and dedicated two new sections of the Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC) to the nation. These sections include the New Khurja to Sahnewal (401 Rkm) segment of the eastern DFC and the New Makarpura to New Gholvad section (244 Rkm) of the western DFC. Furthermore, the Operation Control Centre (OCC) for the western DFC, located in Ahmedabad, was also inaugurated during this event.
