New Delhi: The birth anniversary of Maharaja Hari Singh on 23 September has been declared as a public holiday in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. In this regard, the Jammu and Kashmir administration has issued a notification on Monday.

After independence, for the first time in India, a government holiday will be celebrated on the birth anniversary of the emperor of a princely state. The decision was taken after senior BJP leaders met Union Territory Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on September 15 to demand a holiday in memory of the Dogra ruler.

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha said that this decision is a tribute to Maharaj. On the other hand, there is an atmosphere of celebration in some parts of Jammu after the announcement of celebrating the birth anniversary of Maharaja Hari Singh. Rajput and Dogra groups said that their demand was pending for a long time, which has been accepted.

BJP leader and former deputy chief minister Nirmal Singh said, “I congratulate the entire country, the people of Jammu and Kashmir and the Dogras in Jammu for this achievement.” We also thank the Lieutenant Governor and the central government.
