Air quality in Delhi dips significantly; improvement expected

New Delhi: With an overall air quality index (AQI) of 323, Delhi’s air quality on Diwali evening was still considered “extremely poor.”

The System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research (SAFAR) reported that the total Delhi region’s AQI, at 323, fell into the category of “extremely poor.” The AQI, however, remained in the “extremely poor” category at 365 and 354 in the vicinity of Delhi University and the airport. The AQI for Mathura Road was 322, which is considered to be “extremely poor.” At Gurugram, the AQI remained at 342, which is considered to be “bad.”

The “Red Light On Gaadi Off” programme was also introduced by the Delhi government in an effort to lessen vehicle pollution.

Public figures and officials will encourage commuters to stop their cars at red lights to reduce automobile pollution as part of the campaign.

The burning of stubble in the nearby states of Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Rajasthan throughout the winter also has an impact on the air quality in the nation’s capital.
