Ex CJI UU Lalit comment on collegium system

Justice U U Lalit: Amid the ongoing war of word between central government and supreme court collegium over appointment of judges, Former Chief Justice of India U U Lalit on Saturday spoke in favour of collegium system. He said, ” Collegium system of appointment of judges is a near perfect model which is “Foolproof”

He was speaking at an event organised by ‘campaign for Judicial Accountability and Reform’ (CJAR) on the topic “Judicial Appointments and Reforms”, Justice Lalit said ” According to me, we do not have a system better than the collegium appointment system. If we don’t have anything qualitative or better than the existing system, then we must work toward making it possible that this collegium system survives. He said “The collegium model for appointment of judges is a near perfect model”

Vice President had commented on collegium system

Vice President Jagdeep Dhankar had criticised the appointment of judges through collegium system, “Scrapping national Judicial Appointments commission (NJAC, Which was established by act of parliament, was a breach of parliamentary sovereignty” Vice President recently said.
