Actress Rupali Ganguly, well-known for her role in the popular TV show Anupamaa, officially became a member of the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday, May 1st. She made this announcement during a press conference held in New Delhi. It’s worth mentioning that this move comes amidst India’s ongoing general elections.

Ganguly expressed her sentiments to the press, stating, “Witnessing this ‘Mahayagya’ of development, I feel compelled to contribute. I seek your blessings and support to ensure that whatever I undertake, I do it with excellence and integrity.”
Accompanying Ganguly at the press conference were political figures Vinod Tawde and Anil Baluni. Prior to this, Ganguly, renowned for her role as Monisha in the beloved comedy series Sarabhai vs Sarabhai, had an audience with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in March. Sharing her experience on Instagram, she confessed to feeling a blend of nervousness and excitement during the meeting.

During the press conference at the Delhi headquarters, Rupali Ganguly emphasized, “Ek nagrik ke naate hi sahi, lekin hum sabko isme sehbhaagi hona chahiye. Aur Mahakaal aur Matarani ka aashirwaad hai ki main apne kala ke madhyam se kai saare logo se milti hoon, unse sarokaar hoti hoon. To jab main ye vikas ka mahayagya dekhti hoon to aisa lagta hai kyu na main bhi isme sehbhaagi banu (As a citizen, it’s imperative for all of us to participate in these elections. With the blessings of Mahakaal and Matarani, I have the opportunity to interact with numerous people through my art. So, when I witness this grand ritual of development, I feel compelled to join in.”
Ganguly’s role in the upcoming Lok Sabha Poll 2024 remains uncertain. There’s speculation whether she will be a candidate in the elections or serve as a star campaigner for the party in pivotal constituencies.
Rupali joined the ranks of personalities like Kangana Ranaut, Arun Govil, and others who also aligned with the BJP this year.
