Kalamnuri: Remembering Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru on his birth anniversary, the Congress resumed its ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ on Monday from Kalamnuri in Hingoli district of Maharashtra.

“Unity must be of the mind and heart, a sense of belonging together and of facing together those who attack it,” the Congress quoted the first Prime Minister of India on its Twitter handle.

“First PM of India, Pt. Nehru was a social democrat who coveted a welfare state. He was a humanist-secularist who sought national development on all fronts including agriculture & science. Today on his birth anniversary, we celebrate his endearing legacy,” read another post.

Meanwhile, the Congress’ mass outreach programme took a rest in Kalmnuri yesterday. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi spearheaded the march through the states of Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Telangana and now Maharashtra.

To enter Madhya Pradesh on November 20

The foot march is scheduled to enter Madhya Pradesh on November 20 after completing march in the Maratha land. In 2018 Madhya Pradesh state Assembly polls, the Congress had emerged as a single largest party with Senior party leader Kamal Nath as the Chief Minister.

However, the Congress government fell in the state after over 20 MLAs resigned from the party. Meanwhile, then CM Kamal Nath gave a teary speech while resigning from the post ahead of the floor test ordered by the Supreme Court.

This ended the Congress’ governance within 15 months following the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) claiming majority in the Assembly to return to power.

Prior to 2018 election in the state, the saffron party had ruled the state for three consecutive terms.
