Nalanda: A woman defrauded Rs 15 lakh from LIC by proving her husband to be dead. The wife needed money so she carried out the plan to thug the insurance company.
However, in this fraud case, the police of Laheri police station arrested the accused woman from Gaya on Monday (9 October) evening. The woman was living in a rented house in Gaya. The accused woman was absconding for two and a half years. The matter came to light after the arrest of the woman.
This incident is of April 4, 2021. At that time, the then branch manager of LIC, Suresh Kumar Saini, had lodged a complaint about the fraud incident at Laheri police station. The accused woman arrested by the police has been identified as Saibi Devi, wife of Sunil Kumar, resident of Ashanagar in Sohsarai police station area.
LIC agent has already been arrested
Actually, this fake case was exposed when an accused LIC agent Anil Kumar was arrested. Sunil Kumar, resident of Ashanagar, Sohsarai, had taken a one term insurance policy, the total insurance amount of which was Rs 15 lakh. The policy started on 18 December 2016. It was to be completed on 28 December 2031. His wife Saibi Devi was the nominee in this policy.
Wife Saibi Devi had claimed the insurance money in 2020 by claiming that her husband was dead. Other documents were also submitted along with the death certificate. On November 27, 2020, the insurance amount of Rs 15 lakh was deposited in the woman’s account by LIC.
Woman committed fraud with agent
In this entire matter, Laheri police station incharge Deepak Kumar said that the fraud was done with the help of an agent. An insurance holder named Sunil Kumar had died. The name of husband of accused Saibi Devi was also Sunil Kumar.
Taking advantage of this, he along with agent Anil Kumar committed fraud. Using the certificate of deceased Sunil Kumar, he had taken the insurance amount into his account. After this was revealed, LIC had withdrawn the amount. The woman had absconded after the case was registered. The woman was arrested from Gaya on secret information.
