Chennai: In the midst of the Tamizhagam row in Tamil Nadu, ‘Get out Ravi’ posters were noticed in western Chennai on Tuesday. The inaugural session of the Tamil Nadu Assembly for the year 2023 was conducted yesterday, and it began with a speech by Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi. The Governor’s unwillingness to read the 65th paragraph of the address prepared by the Government of Tamil Nadu at the time sparked a lot of controversy.
Governor RN Ravi’s refusal to read secular text
The Governor also refused to read the words ‘social justice, self-esteem, inclusive development equality, women’s rights, religious harmony, diversity, Periyar, Annal Ambedkar, Perunthalaivar Kamaraj, Perarinjar Anna, Muthamizharinjar artist, Dravida Model Government, Tamil Nadu Peace Park’ in that passage.

Governor’s proposal for renaming Tamil Nadu
Furthermore, Governor RN Ravi suggested that ‘Tamizhgam,’ rather than ‘Tamil Nadu,’ be a more appropriate name for the state. There was outcry following the governor’s proposal.
Meanwhile, MLAs from the DMK coalition party raised slogans in the House against Governor RN Ravi for voicing his opinions without reading the state government’s planned address and for suggesting a name change.

Several posters with the phrase ‘#GetoutRavi’ were seen today in West Chennai, Tamil Nadu’s Valluvar Kottam and Anna Salai regions.
‘#GetoutRavi’ has been trending #1 on Twitter for the past three days, amidst the controversy over the Governor’s words. On Monday, there was a commotion in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly when the Governor came for his annual inaugural address.
CM Stalin condemns Governor’s deeds
On the other hand, speaking in the House following the Governor’s speech, Chief Minister MK Stalin expressed sorrow that the Governor did not read the Government’s statement in its entirety and that what he stated was contrary to the Government’s policy. It is also prohibited for the governor to fail to read the material written and printed by the administration.

Thereafter, he submitted a resolution to include just the English text printed and distributed to members, as well as the Tamil text read by the Speaker, in the notes. He also recommended that the passages read by the Governor rather than those written be excluded from the notes.
The Chief Minister also urged that the resolutions be passed unanimously by the Assembly. While Chief Minister MK Stalin was introducing the resolution, the Governor left the House. The Assembly then passed the resolution proposed by the Chief Minister.
Governor RN Ravi departed before the Legislative Assembly meeting ended and the national anthem was played. Several people are condemning the events outside Ravi’s House.
