Royal Enfield recently launched the new Shotgun 650 motorcycle in India in three variants: Custom Shed, Custom Pro, and Custom Special. Buyers get four colour options to choose from Plasma Blue, Stencil White, Green Drill, and Sheetmetal Grey.

The new Shotgun 650 joins the Interceptor, the Continental GT, and the Super Meteor as the fourth addition to the Indian manufacturer’s globally acclaimed 650 range. The motorcycle shares the same engine and chassis found in the Super Meteor 650. However, the company says this is the only similarity the two bikes share. Both the motorcycles are significantly different from each other, with the Shotgun sporting a more modern and custom-inspired design. The Shotgun 650 and the Super Meteor 650 carry the same price tag.

Modern Meets Retro: Royal Enfield Shotgun 650’s Striking Design

The design of the Shotgun 650 seamlessly combines modern and retro elements. In contrast to Super Meteor’s chrome, the motorcycle gets an all-black finish covering its hardware. The bobber-style tail and peashooter exhaust reveal timeless design cues.

While sharing some aesthetic bits with the Super Meteor, the Shotgun features a more upright riding position as it gets a higher 795mm saddle compared to the former’s 740mm. It also features a more eager 25.3-degree rake angle and mid-position foot pegs, while the pillion seat is removable.

Powering the Ride: The Shotgun 650’s Engine Specs

The brand’s well-known 648cc air-oil-cooled SOHC parallel twin-cylinder engine powers the Shotgun 650. The powerhouse is capable of belting out 46bhp at 7,250rpm and 52.3Nm at 5,650rpm. The motor is connected to a 6-speed gearbox.

The company has tweaked the final drive ratios to suit the character of the bike and set it apart from its peers, although the engine and transmission remain unchanged. With a fuel tank capacity of 13.8 liters, the motorcycle offers a claimed fuel efficiency of 22 kmpl.

Modern Underpinnings: A Look at the Shotgun’s Frame and Suspension

The Shotgun has a wet weight of 240kg due to its steel tubular spine frame. The total length is 2,170mm holding a wheelbase of 1,465mm, while the seat height stands at 795mm. A 100/90 tubeless tyre wraps the 18-inch alloy wheel at the front, while the suspension duties are performed by a Showa Separate Function Big Piston fork with 120mm travel.

The 17-inch alloy wheel at the rear is fitted with 150/70 section tubeless tyres, while a Showa twin shock setup with 90mm travel manages the suspension. A 320mm front disc and a 300mm rear disc with twin-piston calipers and ABS as standard provide the stopping power.

The Shotgun 650 comes with features like USB charging, full LED illumination, brand’s optional Tripper navigation system, dual-channel ABS, an instrument cluster with a retro-style analogue speedometer, and a digital display.

Pricing the Ride: Unveiling the Shotgun 650’s Cost

With a price tag of Rs 3.59 lakh, the Shotgun 650 sits at the top end of RE’s 650 series as the Interceptor and the Continental GT cost Rs 3.03 lakh and Rs 3.19 lakh, respectively (all prices are ex-showroom).

Additionally, it also offers improved hardware compared to the other two bikes. However, it is not the most expensive among the lot as the Super Meteor 650 carries a price tag of Rs 3.64 lakh (ex-showroom).
