New Delhi: Maruti Suzuki has expanded its already large CNG portfolio and launched the XL6 S-CNG model. The XL6 CNG costs about Rs 95,000 more than its equivalent petrol variant, priced at Rs 12.24 lakh (ex-showroom, India) and is only available in the base Zeta trim. The XL6 CNG and Baleno CNG are the first two models in the Nexa range to be offered with a factory-fitted CNG kit.
CNG Power Unit
Like the updated Ertiga CNG, the XL6 CNG is powered by a 1.5-litre K15C petrol engine that produces 88bhp and 121.5Nm in CNG mode and 101bhp and 136Nm in petrol mode. The engine is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox and this CNG version does not have the option of a 6-speed automatic which is only offered on the petrol XL6. Maruti Suzuki claims that the XL6 CNG offers a fuel efficiency of 26.32 km/kg.
Style and equipment
Maruti has given the XL6 a mid-life facelift in 2022 and apart from the CNG sticker, there are no changes to the exterior of the XL6 S-CNG. The cabin of the XL6 CNG also remains identical to the version with a gasoline engine. However, the luggage compartment is slightly compromised due to the 60 liter CNG tank stored there.
As already mentioned, the XL6 CNG is only offered in the base Zeta trim. It will get equipment such as cruise control, push-button start, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, but it will miss out on goodies such as a 360-degree camera, tire pressure monitoring system and ventilated front seats that are offered on higher trims.
Rivals
The XL6 CNG currently takes over its sibling, the recently launched Ertiga CNG, and will compete with the upcoming CNG version of the Kia Carens MPV.
