Instead Of Buying Property On Land, US Man Buys Flat On A Cruise Ship; Here’s Why

Amid the surging prices of land and property, a man hailing from the United States (US) has bought an apartment on a cruise ship claiming that this is more affordable than buying a house.

As per the Metro, Austin Wells bought a flat on board the MV Narratives, in order to travel the world and work remotely from the ship.

Giving details about the price of the flat on MV Narratives, Wells stated that he spend around $300,000 (Rs 2.5 crore) on a 12-year lease for a studio apartment onboard the mega cruise ship.

The apartment consists of 237 square foot room with a foldaway bed, pantry, desk and separate shower room.

Additionally, he also has the option to rent out his flat if he decides to return home or host friends, family aboard for a month.

“The thing that excites me the most is that I won’t have to disrupt my daily routine to explore the world,” Mr. Wells shared with CNBC.

As an employee of Meta’s Reality Labs division, Mr. Wells enjoys a fully remote job. “My working hours will be adjusted to evenings, nights, and early mornings, allowing me to explore cities from midday to afternoon,” he explained. “This is perhaps the first time one can have a standard job and consider living and working from a floating apartment complex.”

Mr. Wells looks forward to making friends onboard as he embarks on global adventures with fellow residents. The MV Narrative, owned by Miami-based shipbuilding company Storylines, offers 500 private rooms and apartments. It features 20 dining options, a microbrewery, a 10,000-book library, a movie theatre, three pools, a gym, an art studio, and an onboard doctor. The cruise is scheduled to launch in 2025, with planned stops in Rome, Naples, Venice, Slovenia, Croatia, Greece, and Turkey.
