More than 93 people were killed and 145 others were injured when a group of gunmen in combat gear opened fire at a concert hall near Moscow, according to Russia‘s FSB (Federal Security Service).

As per Russian news accounts, the assailants hurled explosives, causing a significant blaze at the Crocus City Hall situated on the western outskirts of Moscow. Circulating on social media depicted extensive columns of black smoke billowing from the structure.

As reported that the Islamic State terror group claimed responsibility for the attack through its Telegram channel.

Authorities are investigating the attack as an act of terrorism, marking it as the deadliest assault in Russia in recent years. President Vladimir Putin, who secured a new six-year term on March 17, was briefed about the incident by his aides. The Kremlin stated that Putin was receiving continuous updates regarding the attack and the ongoing situation at the scene.

Multiple terrorists stormed into the concert hall near Moscow, unleashing gunfire on attendees and igniting a large fire. Russian media reported that the roof of the hall was collapsing amidst the chaos.

Russian media reported that special forces arrived at the building to initiate an operation aimed at neutralizing the terrorists, who were suspected to have barricaded themselves inside. However, the Islamic State later claimed that the terrorists had “retreated to their bases safely.”
