Following Mumbai Indians’ first win of the IPL 2024 season against Delhi Capitals, Rohit Sharma, the Mumbai batter, delivered an inspiring speech in the dressing room. The victory came as MI defeated DC by 29 runs at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, marking their first points of the new season.
“It was a wonderful batting performance. It’s something that we’ve all been striving for from game one. It goes to show that individual performances don’t matter if the whole batting group can stand up put their hand up and take a look at the team’s goal, we can achieve that kind of total,” said Rohit.
“So I think that is something that we have been talking about for a long time. It’s something that the batting coach (Pollard), Mark (Boucher), and the captain (Pandya) want. So it is wonderful to see and long may it continue,” Rohit added.

Rohit, who played a pivotal role in the win, scored a brisk 27-ball 49, providing a solid start for his team. His contribution aided MI in achieving their third-highest total in the history of the Indian Premier League. Rohit relinquished his captaincy position at MI after Hardik Pandya’s notable trade from Gujarat Titans.
In a video shared by MI on social media platform ‘X’, Rohit was honored with a medal by former MI all-rounder-turned-batting coach Keiron Pollard before delivering an impassioned speech in the dressing room, praising the team’s batting display. Despite falling short of a half-century, Rohit’s aggressive knock of 49 runs off 27 balls, which included six boundaries and three sixes against Delhi, showcased his batting prowess.

With his innings on Sunday, Rohit became only the second batter, after RCB’s Virat Kohli, to accumulate 1000 runs against DC. Additionally, he joined the elite company of Kohli (against DC) and David Warner (against PBKS and DC) as the third batter to amass 1000 or more runs against a single franchise in the IPL.
Furthermore, the former MI skipper also achieved the milestone of becoming the fourth player to complete 100 or more catches as a fielder in the IPL, following Kohli (110), Suresh Raina (109), and Pollard (103).
