RR’s skipper, Sanju Samson, incurred a 30% fine on his match fees after engaging in a heated on-field argument with the umpires subsequent to his contentious dismissal during the IPL 2024 match against DC. The dismissal, which sparked widespread outcry on social media, occurred when Samson was caught by Shai Hope at the long-off boundary while batting impressively on 84. Many observers raised concerns about Hope’s foot being dangerously close to the boundary line and potentially touching the rope, but there was insufficient evidence to confirm this, leading the TV umpire to uphold Samson’s dismissal.

Rajasthan Royals’ Captain, Mr. Sanju Samson, has been fined 30% of his match fees for violating the IPL Code of Conduct during Match 56 of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 against Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi, on May 7, 2024. Samson was found guilty of a Level 1 offence under Article 2.8 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct. He acknowledged the offence and accepted the sanction imposed by the Match Referee. In cases of Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the decision of the Match Referee is deemed final and binding, as stated by the BCCI.
In a crucial match, Delhi Capitals secured a hard-earned 20-run victory over Rajasthan Royals, keeping their hopes alive for a spot in the IPL playoffs. The home team’s spinners, Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav, were instrumental in securing the win in this must-win encounter. Once again, it was the impressive power-hitting performance by Jake Fraser-McGurk (50) and Abhishek Porel (65) that propelled Delhi Capitals to a formidable total of 221 for eight.

In pursuit of a challenging target to solidify their spot in the playoffs, Rajasthan Royals started off well. However, after the dismissal of skipper Sanju Samson, who scored a brisk 86 off 46 balls in the 16th over, their innings lost momentum. Ultimately, they concluded their chase at 201 for 8. Wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav, with figures of 2/25 in 4 overs, and left-arm spinner Axar Patel, with 1/25 in 3 overs, showcased remarkable control over their line and length, effectively restraining the Royals’ scoring rate during the middle overs.
Following their victory on Tuesday, Delhi Capitals climbed to fifth place with 12 points, equaling three other teams. However, even if they win their remaining two matches, it will be challenging for them to advance to the knockout stage. This is because the teams positioned above them have a better chance of accumulating 18 points. Delhi Capitals can only reach a maximum of 16 points.
