IPL 2024: After Mahendra Singh Dhoni gave up the captaincy of the Chennai Super Kings, the reins of the franchise is now with Ruturaj Gaikwad who is named as the new captain ahead of the first match against the Royal challengers Bangalore. The major revelation came to light following this development as the salary of new captain is cut to half, as per the reports.
Notably, former CSK captain MS Dhoni was getting approximately Rs 12 crore, while it is said that the new captain is just getting half of the amount.
Gaikwad became the fourth captain to take charge of CSK. Before this, apart from Dhoni, Ravindra Jadeja and Suresh Raina have taken command of the team.
Gaikwad’s fee compared to Dhoni
MS Dhoni used to get Rs 12 crore as the captain of Chennai. Dhoni has been associated with Chennai since season one. Compared to Dhoni, Ruturaj Gaikwad will get half the amount as captain. Actually, Gaikwad was retained by Chennai in the year 2022 for Rs 6 crore.

CSK made an unequivocal decision to retain Ruturaj Gaikwad, who has excelled as an opener for the franchise over the past two seasons. After an impressive debut IPL campaign last year, Gaikwad continued his stellar performance in IPL 2021, clinching the Orange Cap for being the highest run-scorer with 635 runs from 16 matches for the four-time champions.
Gaikwad played a pivotal role in CSK’s fourth title triumph in IPL 2021, forming a formidable opening partnership with Faf du Plessis. The duo consistently provided solid starts throughout the season. Gaikwad’s salary saw a remarkable increase, soaring from Rs 20 lakh (INR 2 million) per season to Rs 6 crore (INR 60 million) after being retained.
