Addressing the gathering at the occasion, PM Modi said that it was here, about nine years ago, that I had the honour of proposing to the United Nations to celebrate June 21 as International Yoga Day. I am pleased to see all of you and thank you all for being here. I am told that almost every nationality is represented here today. Yoga means to join so you are coming together it is an expression of another form of yoga.
PM Modi said that last year, the whole world came together to support India’s proposal to observe 2023 as the International Year of Millets. Millet is a superfood. They promote overall health and are also good for the environment. Yoga comes from India. Like all ancient Indian traditions, it is also alive and dynamic. Yoga is a way of life. It is a way of being careful in thoughts and actions. It is a way of living in harmony with oneself, with others and with nature.
