The seat-sharing agreement within the opposition INDIA bloc for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in Maharashtra has been finalised on Tuesday. As per the arrangement, Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena faction will contest on 21 seats. The general elections are slated to take place into seven phases commencing from April 19, while the counting of votes is scheduled on June 4.

The general elections are slated to take place into seven phases commencing from April 19, while the counting of votes is scheduled on June 4.
As per the seat-sharing agreement, Congress will be contesting in 17 seats, while the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) led by Sharad Pawar will vie for 10 seats.
The Shiv Sena (UBT) has managed to retain the contentious seat of Sangli, whereas Bhiwandi has been secured by Congress.

In exchange, Congress has acquired the Mumbai North seat, which has traditionally been retained by the Shiv Sena.
Commenting on the seat-sharing deal, Uddhav Thackeray stated, “Everyone desires to contest for seats, and there’s nothing wrong with it. However, the priority should be given to winning.”
The Lok Sabha elections in Maharashtra are scheduled to be held in five phases on April 19, 26, and May 7, 13, and 20.

The seat-sharing agreement among the opposition parties came after indications of increasing discord within the Maha Vikas Aghadi in Maharashtra. The parties encountered difficulties in reaching an agreement on certain crucial seats.
