In a significant development during the Congress meeting, a decision was made to remove Sanjay Nirupam from the list of star campaigners. The proposal for his expulsion will be forwarded to Delhi for consideration by the Congress Disciplinary Committee. The meeting took place at Tilak Bhawan in Dadar, Mumbai.

According to the sources, the congress stalwart has also been removed from the star campaigner list for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections 2024.

Maharashtra Congress President Nana Patole has remarked on Congress leader Sanjay Nirupam, stating, “His name was initially listed among the star campaigners, but it has now been revoked. Considering the nature of his recent statements, appropriate action will be taken…”.

The upcoming general elections are slated to take place into seven phases from April 19.

Former MP Nirupam has been criticizing the Uddhav Thackeray-led party ever since it announced its candidates for the Lok Sabha seats in Maharashtra.

The source of his dissatisfaction lies in the Mumbai North-West seat, which Nirupam desires to contest. However, the Uddhav Thackeray-led party has nominated Amol Kirtikar as its candidate for this seat.

Currently held by Shiv Sena’s Gajanan Kirtikar, who defeated Nirupam in the 2019 election, the seat has become a point of contention. Gajanan Kirtikar has aligned with Eknath Shinde after the Shiv Sena split, and in a strategic move, the Uddhav Thackeray-led party has nominated his son Amol for the seat.
