Yoga Guru Ramdev offered a sincere apology without any conditions to the Supreme Court on Tuesday for breaching the court’s directive regarding misleading advertisements of Patanjali’s medicinal products, as per reports. This apology followed a strong rebuke from the Supreme Court directed at Ramdev and his associate Balakrishna for their failure to adhere to its orders, warning them to “be ready for action”.

The Supreme Court also rejected the apology previously submitted by Patanjali last month, expressing dissatisfaction by stating, “We are not satisfied with your apology.” According to reports, Ramdev’s lawyer conveyed to the court with folded hands that they sincerely wished to apologize and were prepared to accept any decision from the court.

Ramdev and the managing director of Patanjali Ayurved, Acharya Balkrishna, appeared before the Supreme Court regarding the show cause notices issued to them, questioning why contempt proceedings should not be initiated against them.

On March 19, the Supreme Court directed Ramdev and Balkrishna to appear before it, expressing concern over the company’s failure to respond to the notice issued regarding advertisements of Patanjali’s products and their claimed medicinal effectiveness.

The Supreme Court deemed it necessary to issue a show cause notice to Ramdev, as the advertisements released by Patanjali, which contradicted the undertaking given to the court on November 21, 2023, appeared to bear his endorsement. The case was heard on Tuesday by a bench comprising Justices Hima Kohli and Ahsanuddin Amanullah.

“Are both present?” inquired the bench. The counsel representing Ramdev confirmed that both of them were present in court. The bench remarked that the advertisements released by Patanjali were in direct violation of the law of the land. The hearing on the matter was ongoing.
