Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal will be lodged in Jail Number 2 of Tihar Jail on Monday following the court sentenced him 15 days judicial custody in connection with the Delhi liquor policy case, according to the Prison sources. He will be alone in the cell as AAP MP Sanjay Singh has been shifted to jail number 5 a few days back.

While he is not the only one who is shifted jail number 2 in Tihar prison as former Haryana CM Om Prakash Chautala, aged 86, also stayed in the same cell when he was sentenced to four-year prison in a disproportionate assets case on May 27, 2022.

Arvind Kejriwal’s jail routine and facilities

Arvind Kejriwal’s daily routine in Tihar Jail follows a disciplined schedule, starting at 6:30 am with a simple breakfast of tea and bread. Mornings are often occupied with legal matters or consultations. Lunch, served around midday, includes dal, sabzi, and either rotis or rice, followed by a lock-up period until 3 pm.

In the afternoon, tea and biscuits are provided at 3:30 pm, followed by meetings with legal representatives at 4 pm. Dinner, similar to lunch, is served at 5:30 pm, after which inmates retire to their cells by 7 pm.

Kejriwal, like other prisoners, has access to television channels covering news, entertainment, and sports, except during scheduled activities. Tihar Jail also offers 24/7 medical support, particularly crucial for Kejriwal, who has diabetes. Special dietary arrangements have been made to accommodate his medical needs.

The ED informed the court that Kejriwal stated “Vijay did not report to me but to Atishi” in his statement.

The federal agency requested 15 days of judicial custody for the Delhi Chief Minister, which was granted by the court. Arvind Kejriwal, the Aam Aadmi Party national convenor, has requested to take three books – Bhagavad Gita, Ramayan, and How PM Decides by Nirja Chaudhary – to prison.

Following six days in judicial custody since March 23, the ED had sought further remand for interrogation. They claimed the CM was uncooperative and needed to question others in Goa linked to the case.

Kejriwal had also accused the ED of influencing witness statements but admitted they treated him well during questioning. The ASG argued in court that Kejriwal wasn’t cooperating with evidence. The CM alleged a political conspiracy behind the liquor scam accusations to discredit the AAP.
