New Delhi: The first trailer for director Ali Abbas Zafar’s upcoming drama film Jogi, which is set during the Delhi riots of 1984 and stars Diljit Dosanjh in the title role, was released on Tuesday by Netflix. Three turbulent days of violence are depicted in the movie as three friends struggle to survive.
Jogi is seen eating breakfast with his family at the beginning of the trailer, which suggests that this is the calm before the storm. But the protagonist tries to flee the city with his family and travel to Punjab, which is the safest place they can be in, as gunshots ring through their neighbourhood, which is soon overrun by violent mobs.
For the unversed, the assassination of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi by her Sikh bodyguards instigated the anti-Sikh riots of 1984, which led to the deaths of thousands of Sikhs nationwide but primarily in the nation’s capital. The riots were previously depicted on screen in the 2014 movies 31st October, starring Vir Das, and Punjab 1984, which also starred Diljit.

Following the contentious Amazon Prime Video series Tandav, which starred Saif Ali Khan, this is Zafar’s second significant streaming undertaking. With Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub from Tandav, the filmmaker is reunited in Jogi. Kumud Mishra, Hiten Tejwani, Amyra Dastur, and Paresh Pahuja are also featured in the movie. On September 16, Netflix will release Jogi.
Udta Punjab and Good Newsz are two of Diljit’s most well-known Hindi-language movies. Diljit is primarily a singer. He last appeared in the comedy Honsla Rakh in Punjabi.
