New Delhi: The country’s largest car maker company Maruti Suzuki has brought WagonR running on flex fuel. Flex fuel means that it has been prepared to run on a mixture of petrol and ethanol. The company has introduced the prototype model of its WagonR at an event of SIAM (Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers) held in Delhi. The car is designed to run on an ethanol-petrol blend between E20 (petrol containing 20% ethanol) and E85 (petrol containing 85% ethanol). This WagonR was unveiled by Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari.

What is Flex Fuel?

Flex-fuel is being seen as an alternative to petrol-diesel. This is the reason why it is also called alternative fuel. It is prepared from a mixture of petrol and ethanol. Flex fuel engines can run entirely on petrol or ethanol as well. Flex is derived from the English word flexible.

Working on this technology, Maruti introduced this WagonR, which will be launched for the general public in a few years. According to Maruti Suzuki, they are working on various technologies including electric, hybrid electric, CNG, bio-gas, ethanol, flex-fuel. The company has already announced to make all its models E20 fuel compliant by March 2023.

Gadkari enumerated the benefits of Flex Fuel

Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari said that the country needs to promote flex fuel and e-vehicles to deal with the volatility in the price of crude oil in the international market. . Gadkari said that the reason for 40 percent pollution in the country is fuel like petrol and diesel.
