The electric vehicle (EV) market in India is thriving, thanks to many EV launches in 2024. Automakers like Mahindra, Maruti Suzuki, Tata Motors, and BYD are launching affordable electric cars with impressive ranges and top-notch features. With the rapid evolution of the electric vehicle market in India, the year 2024 has already witnessed some interesting launches. Manufacturers are preparing to diversify their portfolios in the already intensified competitive market. 

Some major players are entering the e-mobility landscape with their debut launches in the electric car segment, while others are making significant strides in anticipation of the growing demand for electric vehicles. Here’s a quick look at some of the major electric car launches either expected or already launched in 2024. Let’s explore some of these exciting electric car launches in India.

Major electric car launches in India so far in 2024

1. Tata Punch EV 

Tata Motors launched the Punch EV on January 17, 2024, at a starting price of Rs 11 lakh, ex-showroom. The Punch EV is based on the ALFA platform and uses Tata’s second-generation EV architecture. Positioned as an affordable electric SUV, it offers medium- and long-range battery options. The long-range battery pack offers up to 421 km per charge, while the mid-range one brings out up to 315 km on a single charge.

2. BYD Seal EV 

Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer BYD launched the Seal EV in India on March 6, 2024, with prices ranging between Rs 41 lakh and Rs 53 lakh, ex-showroom. The BYD Seal EV comes with both single-motor and dual-motor options and offers three different battery pack options. The electric car is capable of hitting a top speed of 180 kmph and can do a 0 to 100 kmph sprint in just 3.8 seconds. It offers a range between 510 km to 650 km.

Major upcoming electric car launches in India in 2024

Looking ahead, the rest of 2024 promises even more exciting electric vehicles to hit the Indian market.

1. Maruti Suzuki eVX 

Marking its debut in the electric vehicle segment, Maruti Suzuki will introduce the eVX electric SUV this year. The eVX has similar dimensions to its sister model, the Grand Vitara. This electric vehicle should offer an impressive range of about 550 km and could get a 60 kWh battery pack.

2. Mahindra XUV300 EV 

Expected in 2024, the XUV300 EV is likely to get a 35 kWh battery pack. The EV will borrow design cues from the XUV300 facelift. While detailed specifications remain unknown, the XUV300 EV is expected to offer a compelling combination of performance and affordability.

3. Mahindra XUV.e8 

The Mahindra XUV.e8 will be part of the next-gen electric vehicle lineup of the homegrown automaker. The electric SUV could pack an 80 kWh battery and is expected to offer 450 km on a single charge. It could also get all-wheel-drive capability for enhanced traction. 

4. Tata Harrier and Safari EVs 

Tata Motors will expand its electric passenger vehicles range with the Harrier and Safari electric vehicles, which will be offering multiple battery options and all-wheel drive systems. The Harrier EV is expected to offer an impressive range of up to 500 km.

5. Tata Curvv 

Tata Motors recently took the wraps off the Curvv in its diesel avatar at the Bharat Mobility Show. The electric version of the Curvv is said to be launched this year with a range of 400-500 km. It will get a dual-motor setup for all-wheel drive. To ensure extended driving capabilities, it will get a larger battery pack.
