Earthquake And Baby’s Arrival: Thai Woman Delivers Amid Crisis, Says ‘Don’t Come Out…’

While everyone was being moved out of the Police General hospital in Bangkok, A 36-year old woman gave birth to her baby daughter in the middle of the chaos.

During the strong earthquake that hit Myanmar and Bangkok on Friday, a Thai women gave birth while people were being rushed out of the hospital.
The woman, Kanthong Saenmuangshin, had gone to the hospital for a routine check-up when the shaking started. Soon after, she went into labor.
As all the patients were being taken out of the Police General Hospital in Bangkok, the 36-year-old woman was worried she might give birth on the stairs. Her waters broke while she was being helped down five flights of stairs.

Birth During The Earthquake

“I was telling my baby, don’t come out yet,” Saenmuangshin said on Saturday.

“Then I was put on a hospital bed and was surrounded by a lot of medical staff where I just gave birth right then and there. It was all a shock to me too,” she told Reuters.

Saenmuangshin was finally relieved when she safely gave birth to her daughter. Her husband couldn’t make it to the hospital at that moment because he was at work.

The couple decided to name their daughter “Mink,” but they haven’t picked an official name yet. They also said the official name will not be related to the earthquake.

In another story, doctors in Bangkok helped a woman give birth on the street outside the Police General Hospital during the earthquake. The woman was having surgery when the tremors started and had to be carried out of the hospital by medical teams.

Surrounded by hospital staff, she gave birth to a baby boy. Videos of the event were shared widely on social media, showing the woman lying on a stretcher as the staff helped with the delivery.

Earthquake Hits Myanmar and Thailand, Causing Death and Destruction

Myanmar was hit by a strong 7.1-magnitude earthquake on Friday, causing a lot of damage. In nearby Thailand, an under-construction skyscraper collapsed, killing many workers. Local reports say the death toll rose to more than 1,644 by Saturday. Over 3,000 people were injured, and 139 are still missing.
