New Delhi: A famous preacher was killed on Friday after an explosion tore through a busy mosque in western Afghanistan, according to Taliban officials. They claimed that more deaths were anticipated.
The explosion occurred during Friday noon prayers at the Guzargah Mosque in the western city of Herat, the pinnacle of the Muslim religious week when places of worship are especially crowded.
Mujib-ul Rahman Ansari, a well-known imam who was well-known throughout Afghanistan for his criticism of Afghanistan's Western-backed governments during the previous 20 years, was killed in the explosion. Ansari was thought to be affiliated with the Taliban, who took over the nation a year ago as international forces departed.
Zabihullah Mujahid, the top Taliban spokesman, confirmed his passing.
More people have been killed and injured, according to the Interior Ministry of Afghanistan's spokesman, who was unable to give further specifics.
