London, United Kingdom: After Liz Truss’s disastrous fall as United Kingdom’s Prime Minister, former British PM Boris Johnson could return in the hot seat, reports in foreign media claim.
Johnson was forced to resign after losing the support of dozens of his cabinet ministers. Following a frenzy of more than 50 resignations from Johnson’s government in opposition to his scandal-plagued premiership, a leadership election was called.
Liz Truss, 47, was declared the winner of an internal Conservative Party vote after a gruelling campaign that began in July. Truss was then asked to form a government as the leader of the largest party in parliament.
However, Liz Truss, the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, resigned today, only 45 days after taking office. Truss’ tenure as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom did not start off well. Not only had the start been disastrous economically and politically, but also diplomatically.
Earlier, opinion polls indicated that a sizable proportion of the British public had lost faith in Truss’ ability to address the cost-of-living crisis. According to a YouGov poll, only 14% expected Truss to outperform Johnson.
Johnson, 58, is still regarded as a charismatic election winner who led the country out of the European Union. Despite repeated allegations of corruption and cronyism during his tenure, as well as an unprecedented police fine for violating his own lockdown rules, Johnson is said to be preparing to take over as Prime Minister once more.
There has been speculation that he might make a comeback, especially now that Truss has resigned and the country is struggling to overcome many problems.
