India wrapped up the day with a massive target of 534 runs and leaving Australia at 12/3, dismantling the top order completely.
DAY 3 RECAP: As India and Australia clash in the first Test at Perth, Day 3 promised to be a pivotal one. With India holding a commanding lead, all eyes were on the thrilling action as both teams battle for dominance. Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul’s brilliant partnership had put India in a strong position, while Australia’s hopes of a comeback rested on their bowlers.
Yashasvi Jaiswal’s momentous knock of 161 stood tall. The Indian batting lineup played with a heroic innings. Rahul’s 77 runs gave India a strong start for the opening of the day. KL missed out on a deserved hundred but Jaiswal cashed in. Devdutt Padikkal looked pretty decent but got out on first ball after lunch. Virat Kohli walked in very brisk. He said something to Jaiswal who was waiting to join him at the crease and then played sensibly to start with. Jaiswal missed a double hundred as he smashed one to point and caught by Smith with a safe pair of hands. It wasn’t exactly easy batting because the pitch was playing a bit up and down as the day wore on. India lost 46/4 at one point but Washington got glued with Virat and then Nitish came out swinging hard. Virat and all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy made a 50+ runs partnership and built the innings back for India. Virat upped his gears and eventually got the hundred that was eluding him for a while. Expectedly India declared immediately after Virat’s century.
Now it was in the Hands of Bumrah and his bowlers to seal the first Test in their favor. The Indian bowlers were on the ground for just 5 overs and approximately 15 minutes, but those 15 minutes were felt like a lifetime for the Australian Top order. Bumrah got the opener McSweeney in the first over itself with the LBW, setting the Australians on backfoot in the first over itself. Siraj seemed to not have left behind as he dismissed the Australian captain Pat Cummins on the first slip on just 2 runs. Bumrah, hungry for more wickets made Marnus Labuschagne go to the pavilion the same way he did to McSweeney.
