Bill Gates, the co-founder of Microsoft, revealed a time management insight from Warren Buffett that he admitted took him too long to grasp. He expressed regret, stating he would have discovered it earlier had he closely observed the CEO of Berkshire Hathaway. Buffett is renowned for maintaining a deliberately sparse calendar.

Bill Gates said you don’t need to fill every second of their schedule to be successful.

In Threads, Bill Gates posted an article in the Atlantic about ‘How to Be Less Busy and Happier’ and said, ‘It took me too long to realize that you don’t have to fill every second of your schedule to be successful.’ ‘In retrospect, this is a lesson I would have learned much sooner if I had studied Warren Buffett’s intentionally light calendar more,’ he added.

‘Give yourself time to read, think and write’

This is not the first time Bill Gates has appreciated how Warren Buffett manages his time. Bill Gates, who was a guest with Warren Buffett, showed in an earlier interview with Bloomberg how empty Buffett’s calendar looked.

‘I remember Warren showing me his calendar. You know, every minute was full and I thought that was the only way to do things,’ he told Bloomberg in an interview.

And you know, the fact that he’s so careful not to push you too hard and not give you time to read and think and write,’ Gates added.

He further elaborated on the importance of prioritization, highlighting that managing one’s time effectively involves recognizing what truly matters.

Gates emphasized that allocating time for contemplation and reflection shouldn’t be underestimated. Buffett concurred, underscoring the invaluable nature of time, which cannot be purchased.
