New Delhi: Arshdeep Singh has seen personal attacks and online abuse in the aftermath of Team India’s five-wicket loss to Pakistan in the Asia Cup. He has been trolled on social media for dropping a catch against Pakistan on Sunday.

A video has gone viral on Twitter where a cricket enthusiast can be seen calling Arshdeep Singh “gaddar (traitor)” as the young pacer boarded the team bus parked outside the stadium.

Arshdeep was seen standing still for a moment, staring at the person after hearing such an uncalled-for remark. A man who witnessed the incident scolded the fan for using such a harsh word for Arshdeep. The video also shows a few officials joining in and asking the man to leave the place.

A fan has tweeted, “A fan could be seen calling @arshdeepsinghh ‘Gaddar’ (traitor) just as the player came out of the stadium. Later another man who seemed to be either a member of the Asian Cricket Council or a journalist intervened & scolded the fan for referring to #arshdeepsingh by such a word.”

At the press conference after Team India’s loss to Sri Lanka in Asia Cup on Tuesday night, Rohit Sharma was asked about the dropped catch incident to which the Indian captain replied, “Arshdeep Singh was disappointed after the dropped catch, then he came back strongly in the 20th over. We don’t look much into social media, there is lots of crap happening.”

Virat Kohli also supported Arshdeep by saying, “Under pressure, anyone can make a mistake. It’s a big match and the situation was tight.”

“I remember when I first played in the Champions Trophy. Against Pakistan, I remember I hit a very bad shot off Shahid Afridi. Till 5 am next morning, I was only staring at the ceiling, unable to sleep. I thought I’ll never get a game again, my career is over. So it’s natural to feel like this,” he added.
