New Delhi: The Khelo India Youth Games (KIYG) will be inaugurated by the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh Shivraj Singh Chouhan in the presence of Union Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs Anurag Singh Thakur for the maiden KIYG at Tatya Tope Nagar Stadium on Moday evening, 30 January.

Maiden season for Madhya Pradesh

The KIYG 2023 will be held in 23 cities of the state in which nearly 6,000 athletes will take part in 27 different sporting events, an official said.

Khelo India Youth Games (KIYG) was formerly know as Khelo India School Games (KISG). There are multidisciplinary sporting events in KYIG that helps to find out new talents in the field of sports and will help them to nurture them at grassroot level.

For the first season of KIYG sports like kayaking, canoeing, canoe slalom and fencing will be part of the KIYG.

“All preparations for organising the Khelo India Youth Games have been completed. The games will start from Monday in a glittering manner on the theme ‘Hindustan Ka Dil Dhadka Do’ for 13 days,” Chouhan told reporters on Sunday.

A total of 303 international and 1,089 national officials will be part of the games and nearly 2,000 volunteers will be deployed at different sport venues, the official said.

Which sports will be played

  • Representing the state, 26 players from Madhya Pradesh will show their game from February 3 to 5.
  • The boxing competition will be held from January 31 to February 4, with 20 men and women competing for the title over five days.
  • Wrestling matches will be held at TT Nagar Stadium from February 7 to 11, in which 21 players will participate.
  • Water sports will be organized in Bade Talab of Bhopal.
    From February 1 to 6, there will be competitions for six days at the Shooting Academy, in which seven players from Madhya Pradesh will participate.
  • Rowing matches will be held from February 7 to 9, in which 20 players from MP will participate in rowing.
  • Kayaking-Canoeing will be held from February 1 to 3, in which 20 players from MP will also participate.
  • Judo matches will be played from February 17 to 10, in which 16 MP players will play.
  • An event will also be held at Prakash Taran Pushkar in Bhopal from February 7 to 11.
  • Volleyball will be played at Sai Indoor Hall in Bhopal from January 30 to February 3, in which 12 women and 12 men, total 28 players are participating.

In 2018 Khelo India Youth Games was organized in Delhi for the first time. Since then four events have been held, in which Maharashtra, Assam and Haryana have hosted. And now Madhya Pradesh is organizing it for the first time.
