New Delhi: Gujarat Titans captain Hardik Pandya won the toss against MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Friday.

Match of IPL 2023

Hardik Pandya-led Gujarat Titans (GT) will look to continue from where they left in the last edition of the IPL. The positive start will give them confidence as they are now have task to retain the trophy.

Meanwhile, MS Dhoni’s CSK will be aiming toward a fresh start after a forgettable previous season where they finished ninth with only 8 points to their name. Mahendra Singh Dhoni will continue to lead the side amid rumour that the 2023 edition could be his last in the league, all eyes will also be on Ben Stokes, the England southpaw who is set to make his debut for the men in yellow.

Captains thought

“We’ll bowl first. It’s always good to play here. New start, new season, quite exciting. Almost everyone in the country has got motivation from him (Dhoni). Been a fan and admirer of him. Want boys to enjoy it. Result will take care of itself. It’s different – I’ve left it in the coach. Ashu pa (Ashish Nehra) works all night on what needs to be done. I don’t know (combination for today),” Hardik Pandya, GT skipper.

“We were also looking to bowl first and I don’t think it [the pitch] will change. Last night it rained and I don’t know if there will be dew. The preparation has been good and we assembled early [in Chennai]. Overall, it seems as if we’ve done okay. It [Impact Player rule] is a luxury to have and it becomes slightly easy to use here because in domestic it was at the 14th over. Four foreigners – Moeen, Stokes, Santner and Conway – and the others will fight for that one spot,” MS Dhoni, CSK skipper.

Playing XI

GT XI: Wriddhiman Saha(w), Shubman Gill, Kane Williamson, Hardik Pandya(c), Vijay Shankar, Rahul Tewatia, Rashid Khan, Mohammed Shami, Joshua Little, Yash Dayal, Alzarri Joseph.

CSK XI: Devon Conway, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ben Stokes, Ambati Rayudu, Moeen Ali, Shivam Dube, MS Dhoni(w/c), Ravindra Jadeja, Mitchell Santner, Deepak Chahar, Rajvardhan Hangargekar.
