Glenn Maxwell humorously expressed his wish that India doesn’t select his Royal Challengers Bangalore teammate Virat Kohli for their squad in the upcoming 2024 T20 World Cup. Maxwell praised Kohli as the most reliable player he’s witnessed, highlighting his exceptional performance in the ongoing IPL 2024 where Kohli leads the run-scoring charts with 316 runs in five matches, boasting an impressive average of 105.33 and a striking rate of 146.29. Kohli has notably scored two half-centuries and a century so far this season.

Maxwell playfully referred to Kohli as one of the most clutch players he’s ever seen, all while jokingly expressing his hope that India doesn’t select him for the 2024 T20 World Cup. Although there were uncertainties regarding Kohli’s inclusion in India’s T20 World Cup squad due to his limited recent appearances in the shortest format, the talented batsman has once again demonstrated his prowess by making a stellar start to the IPL 2024 season.

Maxwell praised Virat Kohli citing his memorable innings against Australia in Mohali during the 2016 T20 World Cup as the best he’s witnessed firsthand. He commended Kohli’s exceptional ability to assess the situation and take decisive actions to secure victory. Maxwell humorously expressed his hope that India doesn’t select Kohli for the upcoming tournament, jesting that it would be a relief not to compete against him.

Continuing, Maxwell remarked that it’s understandable the immense pressure Kohli faces, considering the enormous population of India and their passion for cricket. Highlighting Kohli’s remarkable achievements, Maxwell noted that Kohli holds the record for the highest run-scorer in IPL history, accumulating an impressive 7,579 runs in 242 matches. He emphasized Kohli’s consistency with an average of 38.28, accompanied by an impressive tally of 52 half-centuries and eight centuries in the tournament.

Maxwell continued with a chuckle, stating, “It’s not surprising because there are 1.5 billion people, and I reckon half of them are unbelievable cricketers in this country (laughs). It’s a tough team to break into. Just look at India’s top T20 players, all competing in this tournament. They are phenomenal players, and there should be pressure on every player.”

Kohli will be in action as Royal Challengers Bangalore take on Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
