New India: Indian Hockey Coach Graham Reid has resigned from the position on Monday, a day after the Hockey World Cup 2023 concluded. Reid submitted his resignation to Hockey India president Dilip Tirkey.

Analytical coach Greg Clark and scientific advisor Mitchell David Pemberton also tendered their respective resignations on Monday morning.

“It is now time for me to step aside and handover the reigns to the next management. It has been an honour and privilege to work with the team and Hockey India and I have enjoyed every moment of this epic journey. I wish the team all the very best,” Reid said..

Graham Reid contribution

Graham Reid joined the Indian hockey team in 2019. Under Reid and his supports staff, India achieved bronze at the Tokyo Olympics, silver at 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham and also secured third place in the FIH Hockey Pro League season in 2021/22.

Hockey India president Dilip Tirkey said, “India will always have gratitude towards Graham Reid and his team of support staff who have brought good results to the country, particularly the Olympic Games. As all journeys move to different phases, it is now time for us to move on towards a new approach for our team.”

India performance in Hockey World Cup 2023

India was placed in Pool D of the Hockey World Cup 2023 alongside England, Spain, Wales. India secured the second position in their group stage. Harmanpreet Singh led side faced New Zealand in the crossover match but failed to reach quarter-final.

India finished 9th in the global events where Germany was crowned champion after they defeated the Belgium on Sunday at Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneshwar.

India is ranked 6th in the FIH Hockey rating with 2478.22 points.
