New Delhi: Congress leader Deepender Hooda on Wednesday hit back at Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh and dared the latter to buy Olympic medals in Rs 15.

“Brij Bhushan Singh said these medals can be bought in Rs 15. The Congress party is ready to give as much as they and they show us by purchasing Olympic medal. What is the reason that India managed to bag only 23 individual medals since Independence,” asked Deepender Hooda.

He accused the BJP of looking at the “question to getting justice to wrestlers” from the aspect of politics, religion and caste.

The Congress leader said, “we dare to not test the nation’s patience.”

Hooda highlighted that out of the total 23 medals, 11 medals were brought by the athletes belonging to Haryana.

‘Boxing legend Muhammad Ali set a precedent, immersed Olympic medal to end racial discrimination’: Vijender Singh

Meanwhile, boxer and Congress leader Vijendra Singh referred to an incident with famous boxer Muhhamad Ali who threw his medals in a river in US following humiliation of his medal.

Ali went to a restaurant there when he was insulted and denied entry inside due to his ‘black’ colour. The boxer told the staff that he was a Olympic Gold medalist after which, the latter threw his medal away and said many like come here.

Due to the humiliation, Ali threw his medal in a river that followed a revolution in US as people there supported him.

The Congress leader said meanwhile in India, “when our sisters went to immerse their medals in Ganga, they were asked about their religion followed by a question over their caste.”

Earlier, accused MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh said the wrestlers should return price money rather than the medals. He said, “Medals will be sold for Rs 15.”

Wrestlers have levelled sexual assault charges at Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh who is the chief of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI). Ace wrestlers Bajrang Punia, Vinesh Phogat and Sakshee Malikkh led the protest at Jantar Matar for a month but the site was cleared out by the police on May 28 after a confrontation with the police officials.
