After BJP bagged 163 out of 230 seats, the party took a week to announce the chief minister for the state of Madhya Pradesh. This incident in itself was a little evidence that Shivraj Singh Chouhan was not going to form the government another time.
Here are a few reasons why Shivraj Singh wasn’t BJP’s choice even after the party scripted a historic win.
Assembly elections 2018
After being the chief minister of the state twice in 2008 and 2013, Shivraj Singh Chouhan technically couldn’t make a hat-trick in the 2018 assembly elections. It was Congress that bagged people’s mandate and Kamal Nath came into power. BJP could get it back only with Scindia’s effect after Jyotiraditya joined the party along with 21 MLAs.
Chouhan eyeing for Lok Sabha

Chouhan has clearly said before that his objective is to get all the 29 Lok Sabha seats for BJP in the upcoming general elections in 2024. He seems to have looking towards the central government.
Better portfolio?
After working for the state government for almost two decades, Chouhan is looking for momentum to get into the central government to add accolades to his portfolio. While other ministers kept parading to the centre after the assembly results, Shivraj Singh chose to march into areas focusing on the general elections.
Self predicted
He himself said that he is not in the chief minister’s race and not eyeing on CM’s chair. He is a BJP soldier and will work for the party’s growth. It suggests that probably he knew that the game is little different this time.
