Bolpur (West Bengal): The CBI has taken a big action on Thursday in the cattle smuggling case of West Bengal. The CBI has arrested Birbhum TMC district chief Anubrata Mandal in this case. The TMC leader also underwent a medical checkup before his arrest.
A CBI team reached Anubrata Mandal’s residence at Bolpur in Birbhum district of West Bengal and arrested the TMC leader. It is being said that Anubrata Mandal is likely to be presented in the Asansol court.
The CBI reached Mandal’s house at his Bolpur in Birbhum district on Thursday morning. It is being told that there was a convoy of about 30 vehicles during this period. The CBI team first questioned Mandal at his residence for more than one and a half hours ago. After that he was arrested.
This is how the name of Anubrata Mandal came to the fore
On September 21, 2020, the CBI arrested a former Border Security Force (BSF) commander in connection with illegal cattle smuggling along the Indo-Bangladesh border. Sources said that Anubrata Mondal’s name came under the scanner during the investigation of the case. Sources said the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had on August 5 sent a notice to Mandal for questioning in a cattle smuggling case. Anubrata Mandal was asked to appear in the CBI office at Nizam’s Palace in Kolkata on Monday.
Was not appearing for questioning citing ill health
The central probe agency had called Anubrata Mandal for questioning 10 times before arresting him, but Mandal did not appear citing health issues. He has been questioned twice before by the central agency as part of the probe into the animal smuggling case. It is being told that Mandal was arrested after SSKM Hospital in Kolkata said that he did not need to be admitted.
After registering a case by the CBI in 2020, Mandal’s name came up in the cattle smuggling scam case. According to the CBI, more than 20,000 cattle heads were confiscated by the Border Security Force between 2015 and 2017. In the animal smuggling case, the CBI has recently raided various places in the district. The investigating agency has also arrested Mandal’s bodyguard Sehgal Hussain.
