New Delhi: Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) on Monday informed that the Chandrayaan 3 Lander Module (LM) has established contacts with the Chandrayaan 2.

The organisation said the Lander Vikram is in the Moon’s orbit since August 5, which has now made connections with Chandrayaan-2 orbiter that was sent to the space on July 22, 2019, but crashed on the Moon’s surface during the early hours of September 7.

Earlier in the day, the ISRO had shared pictures of the lunar far side area of the moon. The images were taken by the Chandrayaan-3’s lander.

On August 18, ISRO reported that they successfully executed the first orbit reduction of the Lander Module for the Chandrayaan-3 mission, bringing it even closer to the Moon. ISRO assured that the health of the Lander Module (LM) remains normal.

The landing time for Chandrayaan-3 has also been revealed. The spacecraft is scheduled to touch down on the Moon’s surface on August 23, 2023, at 18:04 IST.

ISRO is meticulously carrying out a series of maneuvers to gradually adjust the spacecraft’s orbit and position it over the lunar poles, where the planned soft landing will take place. This phase’s culmination is anticipated on August 23, when Chandrayaan-3 will make its attempt to softly land in the Moon’s south polar region.

Chandrayaan-3, launched on July 14, has been progressing as planned. It successfully entered the lunar orbit on August 5.

Subsequently, a sequence of three consecutive orbit reduction maneuvers took place on August 6, 9, and 14. These precision maneuvers have a critical role in aligning Chandrayaan-3’s trajectory for its imminent soft landing endeavor.
