Weather Update: Winter is about to set its wings and the cold is ready to make its presence felt. North hill regions are experiencing snow amid the dip in temperature. The temperature in Delhi-NCR has dipped below 10 degrees Celsius. Cold has begun to bother people at many places, including Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Jharkhand. The weather in different parts of India is changing swiftly amid ongoing snowfall and rainfall on the Himalayas. Many states in Central and Northern India have been hit by the cold.

IMD prediction

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted on Wednesday the depression has weakened into a well-defined low-pressure region over the west-central and adjoining southwest Bay of Bengal along the shores of south Andhra Pradesh and north Tamil Nadu. The depression is expected to travel slowly west-northwestwards and diminish further during the following 24 hours.

On November 23, the IMD predicts light to moderate rainfall in a few locations over North Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, south coastal Andhra Pradesh, and Rayalaseema. Meanwhile, the squally weather wind speed of 40-45 kmph gusting to 55 kmph that prevailed over the west-central and adjoining southwest Bay of Bengal, as well as along and off the coasts of South Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, the Gulf of Mannar, and adjoining North Sri Lanka, will gradually decrease by Wednesday morning.

By Tuesday evening, sea conditions in the southwest and neighbouring west-central Bay of Bengal remained rough, although they improved by the morning of November 23. Fishermen are urged not to go out to sea.

The weather service also predicted that minimum temperatures will drop gradually by 2-3 degrees Celsius over Northwest India over the next 4-5 days.

Snowfall on mountains

The cold has increased in the plains following the snowfall on the mountains. Frost has developed in numerous states, including Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and Delhi, as a result of cold winds blowing in hilly areas, and a significant drop in temperature has been recorded. In addition, as a result of the haze and fog in the plains, people’s misery has begun to worsen. Shivering has been more frequent in the morning and evening. Road travel has also become hazardous owing to frost in mountainous locations.

Meanwhile, mild to moderate rain is possible in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The Meteorological Department reports that the minimum temperature has dropped somewhat in North West, Central, and East India today. At the same time, rain continues to fall across South Indian states. Even today, rain is possible in many parts of South India, including Tamil Nadu and Kerala, according to the Meteorological Department.

Meteorological Department report

According to the Meteorological Department, The low pressure area over the southeast Bay of Bengal and adjacent areas drifted west-northwest. Rain is possible in coastal Andhra Pradesh, north Tamil Nadu, and Rayalaseema as a result of this. On the other hand, heavy rains may fall in scattered locations over North Tamil Nadu, South Andhra Pradesh, and Rayalaseema on November 21 and 22. Because to the probability of heavy rains, fishermen have been warned not to venture to the south-west and bordering south-east and west-central Bay of Bengal and Sri Lankan shores for the next two to three days. Additionally, fishermen have been cautioned not to venture towards the beaches of Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Sri Lanka from November 20 to 23.

The lowest temperature has dropped in North West, Central, and East India, according to private weather forecasting organisation Skymet Weather. Today and tomorrow, rain and snow are possible in Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Ladakh, and Jammu & Kashmir. On November 19, Himachal Pradesh may have light rain and snowfall. Over Kerala, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, light to moderate rainfall are expected.
