Tragic Loss: 28-Year-Old Bihar Woman Dies During Sterilization Surgery Conducted By Compounder

The police in Samastipur, Bihar, are looking into the death of a 28-year-old woman who reportedly passed away after a junior staff member at a private healthcare center conducted a sterilization surgery on her in the doctor's absence.

Police in  Samastipur of Bihar are investigating the death of a 28-year-old woman who allegedly died after a junior staff member at a private healthcare center performed a sterilization surgery on her in the absence of the doctor.

Relatives of Babita Devi, reported the incident in Musrigharari, a small town in Samastipur district, approximately 80 km from the state capital Patna. They stated that they took her to Anisha healthcare centre for a sterilization surgery, only to be informed by the center’s staff that no doctor was present. Consequently, the compounder at the centre proceeded to perform the surgery. The small healthcare centre is located on the first floor of a two-story building.

What did the Bihar woman say?

The woman’s uncle stated, “We brought her here around 9 am, and they gave her saline water. They began the procedure around 11 am, and approximately an hour later, they transferred her to a hospital in Mohanpur, about 10 km away,” He mentioned that the family members received no updates on her condition. However, upon checking, they noticed her body was cold. He expressed frustration, stating, “She passed away here, but they didn’t inform us; instead, they hurried to Mohanpur.”

After confirming Babita Devi’s death, her relatives brought her body back to Anisha Health Care Centre and staged a protest. Heartbreaking scenes showed an elderly relative calling out to the deceased woman. The family accused the healthcare center of lacking a doctor in Musrigharari town, with junior staff, known as compounders, performing all medical procedures and endangering patients’ lives.

The staff of Anisha Health Care Centre is currently evading authorities. The woman’s relatives are demanding legal action against each of them. Local police station in-charge Faizul Ansari stated that they are investigating the matter and will take action against those responsible.
