The latest updates from the Telangana assembly elections reveal the Congress securing a majority with 63 out of 119 seats, while the ruling Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS) trails behind with 40 seats. This marked Congress’s triumph over the BRS, ending the latter’s reign since the state’s formation in 2014. Revanth Reddy, upon realizing Congress’s clear mandate, reached the Hyderabad party office to celebrate the victory.
Congress’s electoral pledges, mirroring the successful Karnataka model, played a pivotal role in their victory. These commitments encompassed various facets such as free bus travel for women, monthly cash transfers, and an array of promises including support for farmers, education, housing schemes, and land allotments for those involved in the state movement. Notably, these guarantees aimed at benefiting a diverse range of demographics, from farmers and students to women and the state’s historical activists.
The outcome of the Telangana elections holds paramount significance for the Congress, particularly as the country approaches the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. A victory in both Telangana and Karnataka would significantly bolster the party’s foothold in the southern regions, enhancing its presence ahead of the national elections.
