Delhi Police has identified numerous metro stations in their efforts to curb theft and pickpocketing incidents within the metro system. These stations warrant particular caution from passengers, with the police advising heightened vigilance. They stress that exercising caution at these specific stations can prevent potential distress and disappointment.
More Than 3,000 Criminal Incidents Reported Across 29 Metro Stations
Delhi Police has identified 29 metro stations where theft and pickpocketing incidents are most prevalent. Security measures are being intensified at these locations due to the high frequency of criminal activity. Last year alone, these stations collectively accounted for three thousand criminal cases. Passengers are urged to exercise heightened caution when traveling through these 29 stations:

Kashmiri Gate Identified as Most High-Risk Area
According to Delhi Police, the highest number of reported cases occurred at Kashmere Gate metro station, with 1,003 cases in 2023. Following closely behind are Rajiv Chowk with 418 cases and New Delhi with 385 cases. Police highlight incidents of theft, pickpocketing, and car theft within the premises of these stations. In 2022, a total of 1,811 cases were recorded across these 29 stations.

5,709 Theft Cases Reported
Last year, a total of 5,709 theft cases were reported across all metro stations, resulting in 2,407 cases being registered and 599 arrests made. Among these incidents, 113 vehicles were reported stolen, with 96 cases being resolved. Furthermore, out of 22 reported cases of molestation, 21 were resolved, leading to action taken against 24 individuals.
DCP Metro, Ram Gopal Nayak, anticipates improvements in the metro station conditions moving forward. He mentioned the identification of hotspots and ongoing actions in those areas. 25 Station House Officers (SHOs) were instructed to identify these stations and categorize the crimes accordingly, facilitating easier action and identification of such places.
Nayak noted that criminals often transit from less crowded stations to more crowded ones. They typically operate in groups, with both men and women involved. These gangs employ tactics to lure victims, often targeting them during boarding and deboarding of the metro, with cash or jewelry being common targets.
