New Delhi: An announcement by Sharad Pawar regarding stepping down as the chief of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) left his cadre heartbroken.

While many tried to convince the veteran politician to retain his position, a few party MLAs including Anil Patil and Jitendra Ahwad offered their resignation. However, their resignations are still into consideration.

“I have resigned from the post of National General Secretary and sent it to Sharad Pawar. All the office bearers of Thane NCP have also left their posts. People are resigning after Sharad Pawar’s decision,” Jitendra Awhad said.

Jitender Ahwad is an influential leader, a former minister and a current MLA from the Mumbra-Kalwa constituency in Thane city. It is worth noting that he is considered a close aide of Pawar.

The NCP MLA also played a key role in making Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA); an alliance with Congress and Shiv Sena, which formed a goverment in 2019, said the NCP report.

Sharad Pawar who founded the party in 1999 after splitting up with the Congress having a dispute over Sonia Gandhi’s foreign origin, on Tuesday announced his resignation that followed protest and uncertainty in the party.

At the launch of his autobiography, Pawar (82) made the statement. As per media reports, a party workers has sent him a letter written with his blood asking him not to quit the post and continue to mentor the cadre.
