An incident of gunfire has occurred within the premises of the Ram Mandir complex in Ayodhya. On Tuesday, a jawan of the Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) deployed at the Ram Janmabhoomi complex was shot under suspicious circumstances. The injured jawan, hit in the chest by the bullet, has been referred to the trauma center in Lucknow for treatment.

Upon receiving the information, IG Ayodhya Range, Praveen Kumar, reached the scene. However, he stated that it is not yet clear whether someone else fired the shot at the victim or if he was injured by his own firearm. At the time of the incident, he was stationed atop a watchtower within the Ram Janmabhoomi complex. Orders for an investigation into the incident have been issued.

Later it was reported that the commando sustained injuries while he was cleaning weapons at his post.

Following the incident, his colleagues promptly transported him to the Divisional Hospital. However, due to the severity of his condition, doctors referred him to the Lucknow Trauma Centre, where he was placed on a life support system, as reported.

Ram Prasad, aged 53, hailed from Amethi. He was serving in the 32nd Corps PAC at the time of the incident. While details surrounding the incident are limited, the investigation has commenced. Police authorities have begun questioning his colleagues who were stationed in the temple complex during the time of the incident.
