New Delhi: Pakistani Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto arrived in Goa to attend the foreign Ministers meeting of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). This is the first visit of a Pakistani foreign minister to India after 12 years. Earlier in 2011, Pakistani Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar had visited India.

Bilawal Bhutto left for India around 11 am on Thursday to join the SCO meeting. In a tweet he said that he will lead the Pakistani delegation to the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation.

Bilawal said that my decision to participate in this meeting reflects Pakistan’s strong commitment to the Charter of the SCO. I look forward to constructive discussions with my counterparts from friendly countries.

Bilawal Bhutto is the son of former Prime Minister of Pakistan Benarazir Bhutto and former President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari. Bilawal has been the chairman of the Pakistan People’s Party since 2007. After graduating from Oxford, he returned to Pakistan in 2012. After this he became active in the politics of Pakistan. In the August 2018 general elections, Bilawal Bhutto contested on a Pakistan People’s Party ticket and became a member of the Parliament of Pakistan.

Apart from the Pakistani Foreign Minister, the Foreign Ministers of Russia and China have also reached Goa. Indian External Affairs Minister Jaishankar will hold bilateral meetings with the Foreign Ministers of Russia and China. Foreign Ministers of both Russia and China had earlier come to India to attend the meeting of G20 countries held in Delhi in March.
